Day 17 of the #wildlove30days yoga challenge!
Table top twist is a lovely posture to soothe the mind and relax tension held across the upper back and within the shoulders, this can be explored as a moving sequence or just embraced as a restful pose for a few minutes.
Tabletop Twist - Threading the needle.
Starting in a table top position guide the shoulders over the wrists and the knees beneath the hips.
Press the floor away and open the chest, as you inhale reach the right arm out to the right and up towards the ceiling.
On an exhalation guide the right arm down, through and thread it under the left arm. As you thread you bend the left elbow to guide the right shoulder, outer upper arm and right ear to the floor.
If you would like to support the head with a block or pillow here you can!
Allow the pelvis to rest and 'float' over the bones of the upper legs. Rest the belly, soften the upper body and breathe.
You can settle here for as long as feels comfortable, 5 breaths to 15!
Close the eyes and enjoy a passive twist and inversion all at once.
Upon releasing the twist, take an inhale to expand and release.
+ Aids in calming the mind.
+ Stretches the upper back + shoulders.
+ Relaxes the belly and internal organs.
+ Twists the spine.
