DAY 10 - Pyramid Pose #wildlove30days

Day 10 of the #wildlove30days yoga challenge!

Oh Pyramid pose! It's a standing posture that requires strength & flexibility within the legs but also has a large element of balance thrown in. Great to build flexibility within the backs of the legs and deep flexion (forward folding) within the hips. A posture that has so many adjustments and variations and is great to explore within a sequence practice.

Pyramid Pose - Parsvottanasana

  1. Starting from a standing position at the front edge of the mat.

  2. Take a step back with the right foot to the middle/half way length of the mat.

  3. The left foot/toes point to the front edge, the right toes turn to face the front right corner. (this can vary to accommodate the knee).

  4. Both hips face the front edge of the mat, legs are straight.

  5. Rest the hands on the hips and align the shoulders over the hips.

  6. Inhale and lengthen through the front body and open the chest.

  7. Exhale and HINGE forwards guiding the upper body over the left leg, aiming the heart beyond the knee and the nose beyond the left toes.

  8. Do not worry about your depth more so think about the integrity and length of the spine.

  9. Press both feet down, stay strong and focused!

  10. The hands can rest on the left thigh, shin or floor, be mindful not to put any pressure on the knee.

  11. Every inhalation encourage length and every exhale hinge deeper, finding a variation that you can maintain for 5-10 deep breaths.

  12. Repeat the other side.

Tips & adjustments:

+ Use blocks to help support under the hands.

+ For more height and to aid the length of the spine, place the hands on a chair in front.

+ Adjust the back foot to aid in hip rotation and knee health.

+ A deeper and tricky variation, head to knee, hands off the floor.

+ Fun variation, find your depth and wrap the hands around the back leg!

+ Stretches the back of the legs. + Strengthens legs, ankles and feet. + Opens the hips & hamstrings. + Build discipline with the concentration and will power! ✨ Take a photo of your posture and share it on Facebook/Instagram with the tag @wildlove_yoga #wildlove30days You're doing amazingly, keep going!
