Embracing the Energy of March

Hello, darling souls.
As we step into March, can you feel the subtle shift in the air? We are standing in that sacred threshold between the deep, quiet dreaming of winter and the first, spirited breaths of spring. In the Wyre Forest, the ground is still damp and cool, but beneath the surface, there is a restless, beautiful hum. Life is waking up, and so are we.
In our classes and workshop offerings we often talk about moving with the seasons rather than against them. While February was about the heart space and self-love, March calls us toward renewal and rebirth.
The TCM Perspective: Rising Wood Energy
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, March brings us into the element of Wood. After the Water element of winter (where we focused on stillness and the Kidney meridian), Wood energy is all about upward movement, growth, and vision. It is the energy of the sprout breaking through the frozen soil.
If you’ve been feeling a little "stuck" or perhaps experiencing a flash of frustration lately, notice it without judgment. That is simply the Wood energy wanting to move! In our classes this month, we’ll be focusing on opening the flanks of the body and supporting the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. Think of expansive side-body stretches and twists that help us wring out the old and make space for the new.
Spring Equinox: Finding Your Balance
On the 20th of March, we reach the Spring Equinox, a moment of perfect celestial equilibrium where day and night are of equal length. This is a powerful time to look at the "Yin" and "Yang" of your own life.
+Where are you pushing too hard (too much Yang)?
+Where have you become sedentary or stagnant (too much Yin)?
My Spring Renewal Self-Care Sunday at The Fold will be dedicated to this very balance. We’ll move through a fluid flow to wake up the muscles, followed by the deep, bone-level release of Yin, all held within the healing vibrations of the crystal bowls.
Wildlove Invitations for March:
Seek the green: Get outside in nature as much as you can, notice the buds on the trees, the returning of colour with snowdrops and crocuses. In TCM, the color of Spring is green (my fave!) simply looking at the emerging flora can help soothe the Liver Qi and calm the nervous system.
Spring clean the mind: Just as we clear our homes, use your Pranayama (breathwork) to clear the mental fog. A few rounds of Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) can help balance those left and right hemispheres as we transition seasons.
Move intuitively: On your mat this month, I invite you to be untameable, free-flowing, expressing movement in a way that feels good. If your body wants to sway, let it sway. If it wants to hold a child’s pose for ten minutes, listen. Your body knows the way home.
Join Me in the Forest
I am so looking forward to seeing you all under the canopy or within the cozy wooden walls of the Wyre Forest Discovery Centre. We have some beautiful sessions coming up, including Relaxation Yoga & Sound Bath & Forest Sound Baths on Mothers Day and the special Earth Song evening with Sally Smiles at The Fold in Worcester.
Upcoming March Magic:
March 15th: Relaxation Yoga & Sound Bath (Wyre Forest)
March 15th: Forest Sound Bath (Wyre Forest)
March 20th: Wild Yoga & Ecstatic Dance (Wyre Forest Leisure Centre)
March 21st: Earth Song – Songs of the Land (The Fold)
March 22nd: Self Care Sunday – Spring Renewal (The Fold)
Let’s shed the heavy layers of winter together, not with haste, but with a gentle, loving curiosity.
Stay wild, stay soft.
With so much love,
V x
