March Altar - Setting Intentions for Growth

To honour this seasonal transition, we step from the sleepyness of winter into the expansive, awakening energy of spring. I wanted to share my (or I should say Gus's) altar for this month and the intentions we are working with.

Creating an altar doesn’t have to be rigid or overly formal. Its always beautiful to let it be led by our hearts, an intuitive gathering of textures, nature, crystals, and cards that speak to what we may need right now. Let’s dive into the elements Gus chose for March and the spiritual guidance they may offer us.

Earthy Textures & Natural Elements

To bring the outside in we always like to collect foraged things from our walks, we incorporated a pine branch and a sprig of lavender. Pine is incredibly resilient, reminding us to stay strong and grounded even through seasonal shifts, paired with lavender, a timeless herb for clarity, this duo works in harmony to cleanse the mind.

The Crystal Centerpieces

At the very heart of the altar are stones chosen for deep transformation and unconditional love:

  • Labradorite (Center Freeform): This gorgeous, flashy blue stone is the ultimate tool for magic and intuition. Placed right in the center, Labradorite acts as an energetic anchor, helping to awaken inner spirit, protect the aura, and illuminate the path ahead as we transition into a new season.

  • Rose Quartz (Heart): Sitting just below the Labradorite is a chunky Rose Quartz heart. As we do the hard work of setting boundaries and taking action this month, Rose Quartz reminds us to treat ourselves with deep compassion, gentle grace, and self-love.

  • Grounding Stones: Surrounding the center are various earthy stones, the circle of tiny moss agate stones (my fave!), polychrome jasper (my all time fave!) and soothing lepidolite (from the gorgeous Fern & Clay). Together, they create a balanced grid of grounding, earthy energy and emotional stabilization.

The Messages from the Cards

To guide the intentions for the month, Gus pulled four beautiful cards, placing them at the corners of the altar. Together, they weave a powerful story for March!

1. Take Inspired Action (Full Moon in Virgo) While it’s wonderful to have lofty dreams, this card reminds us that we have to ground those desires by taking practical steps here on Earth. March is the time to ditch self-effacement and self-criticism. The prompt: Make a bullet-point list of what you need to do to manifest your dreams into reality. You are 100% worthy of them.

2. Establish Better Boundaries "Saying NO and having clear boundaries is actually a spiritual act." This card is a vital reminder that our energy is precious. If you are saying YES when you really mean NO, you end up depleted and resentful. The prompt: Check in with your "second brain", your gut. When making a decision this month, pause, tune into your belly, and ask yourself how the commitment actually feels before agreeing to it.

3. Seek Wisdom (The Owl and Hop) Associated with Athena, the owl represents knowledge and nocturnal vision. Paired with the hop vine, a plant that can climb twenty feet in a single season, this card signifies spiritual and intellectual fulfillment. It is a beautiful nod to reaching the end of a long winter journey. The prompt: Take deep, satisfying breaths and relish in your recent achievements. Ask yourself "Am I content?".

4. Trust the Process The final card in the top left carries a gentle but profound promise: "New life will grow from your difficult lessons." As we wait for the spring blooms, remember that the hardships of the past season were simply the compost needed for your next phase of growth.

A Ritual for Your March Altar

If you are building your own altar or setting intentions this month, try this simple manifesting ritual inspired by the Virgo moon energy:

Set the Atmosphere: Add a few drops of Tea Tree essential oil to your diffuser to cleanse the air and promote mental clarity.

Get Comfortable: Sit comfortably by your altar and gently close your eyes.

Call in Support: Quietly ask for help in making a bounty of your dreams come true this month. You can call on your highest self, the universe, or Ceres (the Goddess of the harvest).

Repeat this Affirmation: "I forgive myself for everything. I am doing my best."
